    Expert or manager ?

Are you considering hiring an interim manager to address a major challenge in your company? And you’re wondering if they’re an expert in your industry or business?

This question is natural, as you want to be sure you’re choosing the right person for your situation.

Depending on their skills and experience, an interim manager will, of course, have recognized expertise in a specific field or industry, often even several.

However, what expertise do you need?

When it comes to temporarily filling certain positions (e.g., CFO, HR Director, etc.), the expertise of the role can be decisive.

But let’s take the case of a CEO position. Their expertise is more complex to define, as their added value extends beyond a specific field or industry. It relies in particular on strategic vision, perspective, decision-making skills, cross-functionality, team management, etc.

Moreover, depending on the mission or context, it may also involve leading transformations, managing complex projects, or managing crisis situations. In these cases, is added value judged by specific expertise?

So, what should be prioritized: sector or business expertise, or the ability to solve your problems?

Let’s take the example of an aeronautics company facing a logistics problem. Does it need an aeronautics expert, or a highly experienced manager who will be able to solve its logistical problems, whether they come from the automotive or mass retail sectors?

Expertise isn’t everything. Bringing a new perspective, taking a step back, demonstrating great adaptability, having diverse experience, mobilizing cross-functional skills, and having the ability to do things, this is also what makes an interim manager’s added value, beyond their expertise.

    Testimonials from Ingaged Managers

Feedback from our managers on our collaboration.

“With Ingaged, I carried out an assignment as Interim Sales Director for an SME that felt the need to make changes to its sales organisation before a new recruitment.

As an outsider, it’s very interesting and rewarding to intervene in an operational and strategic way over a sufficiently long period to take stock of the situation, and to propose and support changes with the teams.

For the company, I think it’s a real benefit to be able to get an outside view, and therefore as objective as possible, from someone who will be there to implement and support the changes.

I think that interim management is a relevant and effective solution for companies that are questioning certain key areas of their organisation and should seize the opportunity to put it in place.”

    Sale Director

“As Interim Managing Director, with Ingaged, within a subsidiary of a mid-sized company, I was faced with a dual challenge: to rapidly improve profitability while maintaining the quality of service for customers.

As soon as I arrived, I carried out an analysis of costs, operational processes and financial indicators, which enabled me to identify the issues that were impacting on performance. This enabled us to put in place concrete measures to increase our profitability while remaining competitive in the market.

I also ensured that our employees understood the issues at stake and were involved in the overall performance improvement process.

Transforming a profitability challenge into an opportunity for improvement helped to remobilise the teams and get the company back on track.”

    Managing Director

“As an interim manager, I had the opportunity to work with Ingaged on a plant management assignment for a medium-sized industrial company. My mission was to improve the operational management of the existing production site and to transfer the activity to a new production site.

As soon as I arrived, I worked closely with the Managing Director and, together with the teams, we were able to put practical solutions in place. There was no shortage of issues, and we had to prioritise our objectives. An action plan was quickly drawn up, and I oversaw its operational implementation.

One of the highlights of my assignment was the start-up of operations at the new production site, with no suspension of activity.

In the end, I was able to bring real added value to this medium-sized company, and I’m proud to have contributed, along with the teams, to taking it to a new level.”
